Flavors of China that I have never explored before

Singapore Blogger
There are food that I am familiar with and there are also those that I have not explored yet. To discover good food around the globe is one of the reasons behind my motivation as a lifestyle and food blogger. What I had this time at Nan Jing Restaurant nestled in Hotel Boss are delicacies from the Huai Yang and Cantonese cuisine. Crafted with precision, the exotic items contained wonderful flavours from China.

Nanjing Salted Duck
You will be surprised that this dish has a rich history of more than 1000 years old, back then people treated this as a famous traditional delicacy. The duck is adequately salted and slicked with a tinge of aromatic wine. Moderately lean and not too fatty, the meat has an ideal texture that is seriously tender.

Jellyfish and Cucumber with Vinegar
Jellyfish and Cucumber with Vinegar
I was first attracted to the distinctive smell of vinegar even before I had a taste of it. The chef uses high quality vinegar that does not irritate your throat when you swallow. Having said that, the vinegar also carries a hint of sweetness which blends flawlessly with the crispy jellyfish and cucumber. A refreshing appetiser with guaranteed satisfaction.

Homemade Shredded Tofu

Although the first look is not fantastic but I am amazed by the amount of effort that has been placed in this dish. Tofu skin is shredded to thin slices and soaked in the flavourful broth, a nutritious bowl of delight you will not regret ordering.

Traditional flavors you can’t find easily

As a Singaporean I am brought up and grown to eat local food, but as I often travel quite a fair bit, I had the opportunity to try different cuisines from various countries. However I will still miss the local flavors that I am used to as if it runs in my blood. There are a few established local seafood restaurants that have been around since 20 years ago, one of them is Ubin First Stop. Recalling back to the olden days my parents often brought me to Pulau Ubin for a seafood feast, it was from that time I began to fall for the famous chilli crab. Wanting to find back the old taste, I went over to their newly relocated place at East Coast Seafood Centre. Amazingly the taste was still the same since the day I tried 26 years ago.

Sambal Chilli Crab
Sambal Chilli Crab
Sambal Chilli Crab
The freshest, meatiest, juiciest crab that I know of, the seafood are brought in from local fishermen which explains why it is so fresh. Stir-fried with thick, tangy and savoury sambal chilli sauce that is not too sweet, the succulent flesh is coated evenly well which still taste as good after so many years.

Shang Tang Lobster
Shang Tang Lobster
Shang Tang Lobster
A lobster dish must not lose it’s natural lobster flavour because it is already quite tasteless. Freshly caught and supplied daily, the lobster is tender and juicy. Drizzled with subtle sweet pumpkin gravy that is not too overwhelming, truly one of my favourites here!

Ngoh Hiang
Ngoh Hiang
It is not easy to find hand-made Ngoh Hiang in this era due to the tedious preparation, back then it was a family staple in most household. If you are missing your childhood flavor, you can still enjoy it here traditionally. Fried until lightly brown, it is filled with minced meat, prawns, chopped carrots, water chestnuts, spring onions and many more, the various ingredients sum up to a delectable burst of flavour.

I need a good beauty consultant urgently!!

For many years I would participate in various marathons on an average of 5 times per year, that includes 4 times of half marathon and 1 time full marathon. To prepare my body in tip-top condition, I will either run in the morning or at night but most of the time I will still prefer to run in the morning to kick start my day fresh.
Ashley Chan
When time past, I realise I have grown freckles on my face because of the ultraviolet rays from the sun. I did not really notice till my makeup artist told me about it during my video shoot because it was at the side of my face. I could not give up on running because it has become an important part of my lifestyle, the only time which I can relax my mind and rejuvenate my body.

Consistently every year, I will go for a full marathon to see how far my body can take me. I don't wish to give up on running but my freckles start to worsen, I began to worry when it grew more. Although I have the practice of going for facial monthly, the beautician did not tackle this issue. My face showed signs of ageing after being exposed under the sun for a long period of time. I know that I can’t continue to drag this problem, the fastest solution is to look for a professional beauty consultant to solve this.

Chui Xiang Kitchen Legendary Hands

Singapore Blogger

Run by a couple who are passionate in starting their own business named Chui Xiang Kitchen since 8 years ago. The first location was at Teck Chye Terrace, and soon after shifted to Commonwealth Ave for 3 years and currently they are stationed at Casuarina Road. Casual and unpretentious, Chui Xiang Kitchen is the only restaurant which I have followed closely even though they have relocated thrice, simply because Chef Kok’s legendary hands has got me hooked. His amazing culinary skills has created incredibly good food worthy to mention about.

Lobster Porridge
Lobster Porridge
Highly recommended signature dish to order when you are here for the first time. The rice is not too mushy but seamlessly cooked to the right bite texture. Immersed in stock that is boiled for long hours, the savoury bowl of goodness is unbelievably tasty. Not forgetting the lobster, firm and slightly sweet, truly a match-made in heaven.

Marmite Pork Chop
Marmite Pork Chop
As far as I have tasted, this is the best Marmite Pork Chop that I have eaten. The fragrance was so  alluring, deep fried and coated with sweetened marmite, the meat is especially tender and succulent. Most pork chops are hard and dry but it is a total opposite here. I can literally finish the whole plate on it’s own.

Marmite Pork Chop
Cabbage Chicken in Claypot
A tedious delicacy that you can’t find in many places nowadays. The chicken is filled with black fungus, chestnuts, wolfberries and red dates before being wrapped with big pieces of cabbage. The cabbage is first fried then steamed together in thick sauce for more than 2 hours. Locked with a pack of flavours, the cabbage is so soft that it melts in your mouth.

Marmite Pork Chop
Beancurd with Golden Mushroom
Handmade from scratch, the beancurd is made from soybean water to a smooth and silky texture on the inside, the skin was a tad chewy with just the right thickness. Topping up with golden mushrooms makes it more delectable.

Seafood Horfun
Seafood Horfun
When it comes to Horfun, I will always look out for the ‘wok hei’ (charred aroma). It is the fundamental element which brings the dish to another level of satisfying indulgence. I must say the Horfun has met my expectation, the whole dish was evenly flavoured with gravy light and silky smooth.

Black Pepper Venison
Black Pepper Venison
Claimed to be an exotic meat as well as a masterpiece frquently ordered by patrons. Stir-fried with black pepper and spring onions, the velvety, tender and succulent meat is coated with rich peppery thick sauce. Best to go with a bowl of hot white rice.

Can't believe that all the dishes at "Saturday House" are good.

Singapore Blogger

Everyone loves Saturday, people look forward to this day off every week to spend their time doing things they like or just wanting to have a good meal. Saturday House is just the place suitably to unwind and relax while you chill with beer either in the cosy indoor or the breezy outdoor.
In conclusion, the food here are all prepared with an abundance of sincerity and effort. Why do I say that? Watch the video to find out, the intricate details of the items are self-explanatory.

Top Shell Salad
Top Shell Salad
I liked the idea of having top shell tossed with Thai chilli sauce that comes with a touch of spiciness. Accompanied with lettuce, sliced onions and carrots, it is a simple starter with great impact on my palate.

Grilled Pork Collar
Grilled Pork Collar
As what I know of, pork collar cost more than the usual pork loin which is commonly used in pork chops. Served with such fine quality, it is a plus point that the meat is well marinated and grilled to an excellent cut.  Absolute juicy on the inside, it comes with chef’s sides and home-made BBQ sauce.

Saturday’s Marmite Wings
Saturday’s Marmite Wings
Seasoned with sage, paprika and other spices absorbed entirely into the chicken wings for at least 1 day, they are then deep fried and coated with a glowing glaze of dark brown marmite, sweet and lusciously good. The aroma is irresistible with flavour well executed.

What's so special about Curry Crab?

Over the years when more seafood restaurants bloomed, it is easier to find a good plate of crab in any part of Singapore. Crab comes in all sorts of different flavours such as the most common chilli, pepper and the recently hyped salted egg yolk, however No.3 Crab Delicacy gave me a deeper impression as it carries curry crab, a rather uncommon flavour. I was also fascinated that they do have various items in the menu with each tasting fabulously delicious!

Drunken Cockles
Drunken Cockles
The cockles are lightly rinsed with hot water for just a few seconds to clean it up before serving it mostly raw and chilled. Drizzled with a speciality blend of soy sauce, garlic and chillies, this scrumptious appetiser is sure to kick start your meal.
Curry Crab
This is the first time a Chinese restaurant has introduced curry crab as their signature. Uniquely tantalising, the curry exudes a robust flavour that is not too overwhelming, you can literally drink a few spoonfuls or soak with Mantou. Simmered to the right texture, the most difficult part of this dish is to retain the original taste of the fresh crab, admirably, the chef did it.

Out of the world bistro in Commonwealth

World Bistro is a hidden jem that you will find at the quiet neighbourhood of Commonwealth. Outstanding among the rest, the bistro offers incredible East meets West food with a touch of fine dining quality in a comfortable environment.
World Bistro Pork Ribs
World Bistro Pork Ribs
Inspired by the Indonesian flavour, the meat is juicy on the inside when you tear it apart and slightly sweetened on the outside. Grilled to perfection, this dish is definitely appealing for a meat lover like me.
Lamb Shank in Red Wine Stew
Lamb Shank in Red Wine Stew
A good piece of lamb shank has to be tender and flavorful, the chef achieved this ideal texture of the meat with at least 6 to 8 hours of cooking.  Simmered using 2 bottles of red wine, the aromatic thick sauce sips entirely into the lamb, absolutely flavorful. I am glad that the meaty smell did not overpower it.
Sambal pasta
Sambal pasta
A signature East meets West, the sambal pasta has a hint of creativity on it's own. The first mouth was spicy but distinctively delicious. Addictive to my palate, I thought it is a great dish considering the flavour evenly mixed throughout.
Grilled Squid Salad in World Bistro Sauce
Grilled Squid Salad in World Bistro Sauce
The fragrance of the squid is superbly good. Although it sounds simple but the control of temperature determines the texture of the squid. Freshly stir fried, it is topped with Vietnamese pepper and Japanese dressings giving it a sensational taste! I love how it is not too hard and not too soft either, just nice to accompany with beer.

If you are seeking for a quiet place that you can relax your mind and enjoy good food, this is it.

Day coffee shop, Night Cafe

The first cafe established in Tiong Bahru,  currently one of the most hyped-up place where people gather to indulge and chill. Day & Night has an interesting concept of transforming from a coffee shop during the day to a cafe during the night so you would be able to experience totally different food   and atmosphere when you are here in the day and night.

Signature Drink
Introducing the noteworthy signature drink. Although the greeny color does not look  appetizing but you are bound to get stuck to it after taking the first sip. Made up of caixin, pineapple juice and sour plum, I personally like it alot that I had two cups! Very refreshing to the palate and most importantly it is good for your body.

Day & Night Pizza
Day & Night Pizza
Drawn from the inspiration of the day and night theme, you can choose your own flavours that you prefer from a range of choices. We had the Smoked Duck and Bismark combination, just nice for those who can't get enough of one flavour.

Day & Night Mini Sliders
Day & Night Mini Sliders
The mini version of the Day & Night Burger.  Not the usual beef that you expect, the chef uses pork instead. Juicy and succulent, the meat oozes a pack full of goodness!
