The proper steps to pray at Erawan Shrine (四面佛)

Each year without fail I will travel to Thailand, Bangkok to pay respect to the well-known worship attraction at Erawan Shrine (四面佛) located near the Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. If you have read my previous blog post which I mentioned about visiting the White Dragon Temple (白龙王), it is my personal practice to visit these 2 places to return their kindness and pray for blessings.

For first time believers who wish to know the correct steps to pray, you can follow the simple procedures from the video. There are 3 important things to take note of, purchase your own set of candles, incense and flower, light the candles and incense first then pray to each side of the four-faced buddha starting from the main entrance followed by clock-wise direction.

The Erawan Shrine also features local Thai dance performances who dressed themselves in beautiful traditional Thai costumes. You can hire them as accompaniment when you pray and seek for blessings. The cost varies between 260 baht to 710 baht ranging from 2 to 8 dancers.

Be prepared to drink plenty of water and wear light clothing or a cap if you are going in the early morning or noon as the sun will be scorching hot at that time. Of course, I would suggest to dress discreetly with long pants and T-shirt to show respect in this kind of occasion.
