Big Fish Small Fish Container Dining

Container dining is one of the hottest trend right now, especially when it has an instagrammable environment with lush greenery surrounding the area and food is great there as well. Big Fish Small Fish uniquely offers various type of fish and chips where you can choose to have a selection of fresh Dory, Yellow Fin, Red Tilapia, Sea Bass, Salmon or Red Snapper.

What makes them special is the variety of sauces they serve such as Cheese, Salted Egg, XO Mayo, Tartar Sauce and many others. The fish comes along with thinly-sliced crips that are fried till golden-brown, absolutely addictive when eaten with the sauces. If you are a big eater, there are also several add-ons to add to your order, you can either choose to have Coleslaw, Potato Salad, Crips, Calamari, Churros or Chocolate Lava Cake as dessert. Big Fish Small Fish is a casual yet chic restaurant where you can experience a different sensation of dining.

Shishamo Fish
Served hot to the table, it exudes an amazing fragrance. The shishamo fish is fried till crispy and has a perfect bite. What impressed me is the texture that is still smooth and kept slightly moist.

XO Shrimp
Coated with thick XO sauce, the shrimp has a special combination of taste, there is home-made coleslaw at the bottom of the bowl giving it a refreshing kick. The sauce is slightly too spicy for me but if you are a spice lover you are going to enjoy this one.

Salmon Fish and Chips
I had salmon out of the other fish choices, it is served generously with a thick cut. The batter wraps around the fish nicely, it is crispy on the outside yet not too thick. You can still taste the delicious fish fragrance although deep fried, the flakes are retained with adequate moisture.

Wong Kok Char Chan Teng (旺角) Brand Ambassador

Wong Kok Char Chan Teng has 20 over branches in Malaysia and one of them is situated conveniently at Johor Bahru, Singaporeans who often travel to Malaysia will be familiar with this restaurant. I was delighted to be the ambassador of Wong Kok Char Chan Teng as well, they are quite similar to Causeway Bay HK Cafe but has their own set of menu with a twist which also features some of the popular items in Hong Kong.

Cheese Baked Rice in Hong Kong Style (Chicken Chop)
It is my favourite dish, I will always order this when I am here. The slightly burnt cheese is rich, flavorful and has a tinge of Chinese herbs fragrance. Served with sauce that is not too salty, the chicken chop is also ideally soft, a perfect combination with no flaws.

Black Pepper Fried Udon
With a choice of pork, chicken or beef, you can choose your preferred meat to go with the udon. The udon used here is of top quality as it does not have a strong taste of flour that is too overwhelming. Each strand is fried evenly, giving off an intense black pepper fragrance. An appetising dish not to be missed.

Shanghai Noodle Soup with “Szechuan” Vegetable
Hong Kong people usually go light in their diet, that is why it is quite common that they use “Szechuan Vegetable” in their soup-based dishes. It enhances the flavor of the soup and gives off an aromatic flavor. Noodles with shredded pork and salted vegetable has the best combination for a light meal.

Tong Bee Cockles Stall (Longkang Siham)

Tong Bee Cockles Stall is not the usual kind of dining place you can find in Singapore. It is a road-side eatery where you can just seat on a stool and order at an open area. I particularly enjoy such traditional eating culture which I thought this is what makes Melaka, Malaysia unique on it’s own.

Introducing various type of cockles cooked upon ordering, these are live catches so if you have a weak heart, this place isn't suitable for you, but if you are as adventurous as me who likes to eat like a local, then you wouldn't want to miss coming here when you are in Melaka. The cockles are all fresh, naturally the texture is smoother and tasted more springy.

I got to experienced quite a fair bit in this invitation trip, the lady boss thought us how to mix the right chilli sauce to go with the different type of cockles. I was surprised to know that their chilli sauce consist of so much ingredients! No wonder it tasted so good! Watch the video to find out what is the secret behind…

Causeway Bay HK Cafe 铜锣湾 # Johor #KLS City Malaysia

It is an honour to be invited as the ambassador of Causeway Bay HK Cafe located in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Coincidentally I am actually a big fan of Hong Kong food as I often travel there for travelogue video shootings to feature places of interest. Today two special guests are with me representing Hong Kong and Malaysia respectively for this food tasting session to share their views of the dishes. There is a surprise at the back, watch the video till the end to see how the three of us conquer the famous giant burger only available at Causeway Bay HK Cafe.

Pork Chop Cheese Baked Rice
For cheese lovers you will surely like this one. Baked with melted thick cheese at the top layer and tender pork chop with fragrant rice at the bottom. It is gratifying to eat at Causeway bay because it is known for their generous serving, you can definitely get your cheese craving fixed here!

HK Style Waxed Meat Rice
Although it is not served in the traditional claypot style, there are two important points that the chef has done well which this dish still taste as good. The meat is marinated very nicely producing a strong fragrance and the glutinous rice is not too sticky, a perfect improvised creation.

Cantonese Style Black Char Siew Fried Hor Fun
There are various types of hor fun here, one of the best is this. To test the culinary skill of the chef, you have to order the hor fun. Not only is the ‘Wok hei’ fragrance enticing, what makes it even more tasty is the home-made ‘char siew’, also known as flavored barbecue pork added in the dish. The savoury pork melts in your mouth, there is a well-balanced lean and fat meat that is perfect.

Sliced Abalone Ying Yang Red and White Sauce Baked Spaghetti
In the past this dish is usually served separately in Hong Kong but over the years, it is served together as one so that you can taste the combination of both tomato and cream sauce. It is an interesting mix of flavours which is quite delicious with the soft abalone slices and corn.

32 years of Hand-made Ban Mian

Ban Mian Mee Hoon Kway Hand-made noodles has a history of more than 32 years. I was their customer since 20 years ago when they had their first stall at Jurong West. Now they have prospered to 4 locations and the operation hour runs till late at night, definitely a good place for supper!

The main highlight, all of the noodles are made from scratch. In these days handmade noodles are difficult to get outside because it is time consuming and takes double the effort but the taste is remarkably better than those machine-made ones. This is the reason I have been patronising them for more than 20 years. There are 3 types of noodles to choose from, thin noodles (幼面), flat noodles (板面) and hand-torn noodles (面粉粿). The amount of dough and water is handled very well in order to produce such delicious and bouncy texture.

The soup served here is one that will make you crave for more, it is boiled for 8 hours to produce such robust, rich and tasty broth that is perfect with salted anchovy. Sesame oil and Chinese wine is added to enhance the flavor. Another home-made item that I must mention is the blended chilli made from 5 secret ingredients. Add some spice into your bowl of noodles for a gratifying taste.

Not forgetting the dry thin noodles, it is a newly introduced item that has a different chilli accompaniment made of dried shrimps, prawn paste and 3 other secret ingredients. Blend it well and Hola! You get an ultimate bowl of goodness.

What I am impressed with is the generous amount of ingredients such as prawns, meat balls, abalone and sliced abalone they serve at the right portion, especially the anchovies. They are fried till a seamless crispiness and not too salty, just nice to pair it with the noodles or you can even pack some home to eat it as a snack!

On the road cafe # Kluang Malaysia

Kluang is considered one of the food paradise in Malaysia. I was delighted when I had the chance to feature On the Road Cafe. The unique cafe started with just one type of cheesecake which is the NY Cheesecake, it is  hand-made from scratch. After gaining popularity gradually, they created more new recipes when people grew fond to try other flavors of their cakes. I am impressed with their concept of using quality, natural and healthier ingredients to satisfy diner's experience.

Sweet Potato Cheesecake
You can find diced sweet potatoes in the cheesecake itself and are all freshly baked. The sweet potatoes are planted by the owner's friend himself and used here. Fruits are served at the side to refresh your palate.

Red Apple and Parmesan Cheesecake
Unlike most cakes, it is topped with refreshing yogurt at the upper layer instead of cream. This makes it healthier and especially appealing to the ladies. Not too sour but delicious for a sweet treat.

Rose Herb and White Wine Cheesecake
This cake is more suitable for adults as it contains subtle alcohol. Shaved rose petals are sprinkled on top to lightly enhance the flavor of the cheesecake.

There are many more flavors of cheesecakes which you can't get from elsewhere except here. Click on to my blog link to find out what are the other recommendable choices.
